The innovations in textile industry of 1960s and 1970s gave birth to a modern industry for textile in Turkey.
Firstly, this sector started with small workshops. The earliest sources for clothing go back to the miniatures and wall pictures in Central Asia. Sources of 100 B.C. show that the fabric of woolen and cotton was woven on handlooms whereas silk came from China.
Due to the way of living, Turkish clothing had functional styles. The materials of leather and felt were important because of the natural and social conditions. There were also other materials besides them such as ship skin, fur and woolen materials.

In time rapid development and export started to be seen. For today, textile sector is one of the most important and profitable sectors for Turkish economy. The rank of Turkish textile is becoming higher and higher among clothing producers and exporters all around the world. Turkey has a diversified production in all sectors of textile, produces and exports of various types of fabric, clothing, yarn, household textiles etc.
